Vice President Kamala Harris and her team are standing firm against increasing calls for her to replace President Joe Biden on the 2024 Democratic ticket. Despite new polling suggesting Harris could perform better than Biden in a hypothetical race against Donald Trump, her campaign remains resolute in supporting the current ticket.

Harris' staff has been instructed to stay united and focused on the Biden-Harris campaign. This directive was reinforced during a virtual staff meeting on Monday, where employees were urged to follow Harris' lead and remain focused, according to sources who spoke with CNN.

Echoing this internal message, Harris firmly rejected the idea of running in Biden's place during a brief interview with CBS on Tuesday. "Look, Joe Biden is our nominee. We beat Trump once, and we’re going to beat him again, period," she said. "I am proud to be Joe Biden’s running mate."

A recent CNN poll conducted after last week's debate shows Harris in a close hypothetical matchup against Trump, with 47% of registered voters supporting Trump and 45% supporting Harris—a statistical tie within the margin of error.

Former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan has publicly called for Democrats to replace Biden with Harris, citing her close involvement in the administration's achievements. "We talk about President Biden’s administration being the most successful administration in modern history. We brag about that. She was in the room. She was right there, three-and-a-half years, went through the campaign with him," Ryan told CNN's Jake Tapper. "I think she would be able to talk about that much clearer than the president would be able to."

In response to the debate's immediate aftermath, Harris' staff has been reaching out to Democratic officials to reassure them and emphasize Biden’s record and agenda. They are calling for unity within the party, CNN previously reported.

Sources close to Harris consistently emphasize her loyalty to Biden. "Some just don’t understand the rules, some are stirring the pot, and some have their own agenda," said one source close to Harris when asked about the calls for her to replace Biden. "But for her, there is one plan and focus, and it starts with Joe Biden and this country."

Biden and Harris are scheduled to have lunch at the White House on Wednesday and have spoken multiple times since last Thursday’s debate, according to sources familiar with their conversations.
